Chopard ALPINE EAGLE 41 XPS
Unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2023, the Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS
high quality replica watches is powered by the slim LUC 96.40-L movement, measuring just 3.30 mm in height. This high-end movement has a beautiful finish and is equipped with a micro-rotor. Mark McArthur-Christie outlines the new sports watch in his own unique style.
Simple is harder than complex
Given that we're talking about a mechanical watch—which pretty much goes against trends in digitization, automation, and even artificial intelligence—it's perhaps ironic that I choose to quote Apple founder Steve Jobs. However, his remarks can easily be applied to Chopard's latest Alpine Eagle model:
Simple can be harder than complex: you have to work on clearing your mind to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.
It looks like the designers and watchmakers at Chopard have been thinking a lot here. The DNA of the new Alpine Eagle 41 XPS can be traced back to the original St Moritz, a design masterminded by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele in the 1980s.

The Chopard Alpine Eagle 41 XPS is the latest version of the Alpine Eagle, measuring only 8 mm in height. Compared to the classic Alpine Eagle Large model, the sides and bezel have been trimmed to make the dial stand out more. The LUC 96.40-L mechanical self-winding movement is indeed wafer-like (perhaps even 3.3mm thick “wafer-like”?). The whole thing works well as an ostensibly simple unit, but there's a lot of complexity beneath the surface.
Lucent Steel™
In stark contrast to most modern digital technologies, Chopard clearly wants to reduce the impact of its watches on the planet, which can be summed up by its "sustainable luxury" slogan. Like many of the company's watches, the XPS comes in a Lucent Steel™ package. It's an alloy made from 80% recycled material, chosen by Chopard not only for its greenness but also for its anti-allergenic properties, sturdiness and thorough shine.
discount replica watchesLucent Steel™ was first used on the Alpine Eagle in 2019. It is planned that by the end of this year, all Chopard steel watches, including bracelets and cases, will be made of the same 80% recycled steel. By 2025, this proportion will be at least 90%. It's great to see a company actually turn the writing on the wall into reality.
That's not to say you need to wear the Alpine Eagle 41 XPS under a sweater cuff. Despite its environmental credentials, this is still serious watchmaking.
LUC 96.40-L
Speaking of which, the LUC 96.40-L mechanical self-winding movement inside the shiny Lucent stainless steel case is based on the first movement LUC 96.01-L designed and manufactured by Chopard Watch Factory in 1996. . Today, the 96.40-L is entirely developed, produced and assembled in the company's Haute Horlogerie workshops and holds COSC chronometer certification.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a 65-hour power reserve thanks to what Chopard calls "Dual Technology" (a system invented by Chopard that harnesses the power of two combined coaxial barrels) . Power is provided by a 22-carat gold micro-rotor, a feature that means the rotor follows the contours of the movement, thereby reducing its depth. Think about it all – this is an automatic movement, just half a millimeter thicker than a pound coin, with twin barrels and a 65-hour power reserve.

The accuracy of this movement has been certified by the official Swiss Observatory testing agency, so the word "Chronometer" on the dial is located below the logo. Movement features such as the swan-neck regulator help improve accuracy, meaning watchmakers can fine-tune the hairspring. It also adds to the beauty of the movement.
Seal of Geneva
You might think a 29-jewel (pretty much all the bearings in the watch) Poinçon de Genève movement like this would be attractive, and the 96.40-L makes the most of bevelling, texturing, and polishing. The transparent sapphire caseback also gives you a chance to admire it. Considering the characteristics of this movement, a slightly tongue-in-cheek suggestion I made to Chopard was to make a version with a two-way bracelet. This at least allows the owner to wear the watch with the movement side facing out. This is worth it.
The back of the
replica watches luxury and the bridge of the main movement are engraved with "punch", which represents the emblem of the city of Geneva; a gold key. Following the Alpine Eagle Flying Tourbillon, the Alpine Eagle 41 XPS is the second watch in the series to receive this distinguished label of excellence. Above the Seal of Geneva is an eagle: a symbol that recalls the original inspiration for the Alpine Eagle collection.
dial
This is another small seconds movement from Chopard, first seen in the Alpine Eagle Flying Tourbillon released in 2022, and it's a perfect fit for this latest watch. The sub-seconds hand on its snail-shaped surface contrasts sharply with the texture of the main dial.
The dial is in “Monte Rosa Pink” color and has a brass base with texture. At first glance, the dial's surface looks like a sunburst pattern. In fact, the swirling line design is based on the iris of an eagle - possibly one of the species of the same name.
Many watches at this level are difficult to read. The hands may be too thin, or not distinct enough from the dial they sit on. Yes, it's a little old, but it's nice to see the Alpine Eagle's gold hands clearly visible. X1-grade Super-LumiNova® helps them navigate in dark conditions, is significantly 60% brighter than traditional LumiNova, and is more resistant to aging.
Despite the thinner movement and shorter seconds, you still get all the features of the Alpine Eagle: round case with stylized flanks, crown engraved with compass, bezel with eight functional screws , embossed dial, luminous indicators and a very wear-resistant metal bracelet.
case
If one has a mild form of OCD, the hexagonal screws in the hexagonal holes on some
swiss replica watches can be a bit disconcerting (at least until one realizes that the round-head screws on the back can be turned). There are no such worries here; one can admire its bezels, screws, and more. Even better, they feature a tight fit of case elements together, helping to maintain 100m water resistance.
What ensures you have the XPS on your wrist is a typically well-constructed integrated bracelet that tapers from the lugs to just 20mm close to the hidden butterfly deployment clasp. Each link is cut from Lucent Steel™ and then polished—all in-house. The links are held in place by a central stainless steel screw so they can be easily resized and adjusted as needed. The raised polished center link is a subtle nod to the bracelet on the original St Moritz watch.
In typical Chopard fashion, this new Alpine Eagle is very much an evolution rather than anything that would scare a horse, at least on the surface. Everything looks simple. But as Mr. Jobs said, simple is hard – and you can see it in the pure watchmaking craftsmanship that goes into its remarkable and beautiful twin-spring movement. Of course, mechanical watches are almost infinitely sustainable, right?
